About The Campaign

Please read the story below by author and marketing consultant Ken Burnett about why the Change Your Bank campaign was founded. Have you had a similar moment? Tell us!

How does anyone register their disgust at what the banks are doing?

After 35+ years as loyal customers at Royal Bank of Scotland my wife Marie and I decided that we’d had enough. We wrote to our relationship manager at RBS and told him we wanted to change our bank.

To our surprise, RBS asked for a meeting with some of their ‘higher ups’. Two of their directors came round to our London home to tell us why they thought we should stay.

We listened to their assurances of good intent. They’d even brought with them a press release from CEO Stephen Hester. (he is in line for a £6 million bonus when RBS shares hit a level that most pundits say is, ‘merely a matter of time.’

We were encouraged by all they had to say. But not entirely convinced.

So we said, ‘OK RBS. You prove to us that you really intend to change and really have changed, and we won’t move our accounts. But if after 12 months we remain unconvinced, then we will move, as publicly as we can. And we’ll show others how they can change their bank too.’

That year has now started.

I have come together with a group of other concerned individuals to try and start a campaign to make banks act fairly. We want as many people as possible to let the banks know that the public care about what they do and we are watching them.

Please, get involved today and let your bank know that you think the should change what they do.
